Throughout the adoption lifespan, Ms. Schuman assists and counsels individuals, couples, and families.  As the Founding Director of Adoption Cooperative Consultants, she has helped hundreds of families navigate the adoption process.  She also works with parents to educate them about the ways to disclose information about adoption to their children.  Since 2007, Ms. Schuman has run workshops for children to help them understand and share their adoption information.

Lisa Schuman, LCSW, runs individual and group sessions as well as weekend workshops through “Forever Families Through Adoption.”  Ms. Schuman lectures on a variety of subjects for adoptive and prospective adoptive parents and is an active member of the Adoptive Parents Committee since 2000.

Single Parents

In private practice and through lectures, Ms. Schuman helps individuals achieve their dream of becoming parents.  She has lectured in private venues, small groups, and at fertility clinics with Single Mothers by Choice founder, Jane Mattes.

Becoming a single parent is not an easy choice.  There are many issues to consider.  Each decision comes with its own long and short-term implications.  There is no right answer, only the answer that is right for you.  Once you feel clear about your options, the journey becomes much easier.

If having a child or a second child is not right for you now, egg freezing is a viable option for many women.  Individual and group counseling is available.

LGBT Family Building

Since 2001, Ms. Schuman has been advocating for, and assisting LGBT couples and individuals to build the family of their dreams.  Through adoption, egg and sperm donation, and gestational carrier arrangements, she has helped many families achieve their goals.  Ms. Schuman lectures about LGBT family issues for many professional groups including The Adoptive Parents Committee and the Gay and Lesbian Center in New York City.
